Famed Chanel designer Karl Lagerfeld has gone on the record about his distaste for plus-sized (plus-sized meaning anything larger than size 0) models and women. In response to recent criticisms of the fashion industry’s skinny-standard, Lagerfeld has used “Focus Magazine” as an outlet to voice his defense of the industry’s discriminatory practices. He states,
“Fat mummies sit there in front of the television with their chip packets and say skinny models are ugly.”
He goes on to insist that no one wants to look at “fat” women on the runway. His comments have caused quite an uproar of disapproval. In particular, Refinery29.com made a list of some of their “favorite bodacious, curvaceous ladies,” to show support for the women who are not 80 pounds soaking wet.
We believe that beauty has no standard size, and appreciate women of all makes and models. And as much as we appreciate Lagerfeld’s creative genius, he should probably stick to discussing all things haute couture, because his comments are just a haute mess!
