Toya And Reginae Dish On Season 2 Of The 'Toya & Reginae' Show

In our first look at the brand new season of WeTV’s Toya & Reginae, Toya Johnson declares this season is about “turning the page,” and there couldn’t be a better time for a new chapter. Toya’s brother, Walter, is finally home from prison after serving a nine-year-bid; Reginae is on track to become Hollywood’s freshest ingénue, and Ms. Anita is trying to get her hot grandmama on by making her rounds on the senior dating scene. But with new beginnings comes new challenges, as Toya continues her reign as the family’s matriarch, a role she’s battling with as she looks to set new boundaries with the people she loves the most. “I’m constantly letting my family turn me into something else,” a tearful Toya cries in the season 2 trailer.

HelloBeautiful caught up with our favorite Georgia peaches, Toya and Reginae, in the middle of their season 2 press runs, and the mother-daughter-duo spilled their cheat codes on how to maintain peace in the midst of family drama — something we all can relate to. 

Toya said over the last year, she’s learned to “let go of things and stop repeating” the same patterns that cause stress. “Learn to deal with people from a distance, and just be okay with that, if it brings you peace, and let go of anything that disrupts your peace.”

Reginae Takes LA

Since her move to L.A., Reginae has learned to lean into the unfamiliar and embrace life outside of her cozy, Atlanta, birth nest.

“I had to really be okay with being uncomfortable for a minute,” she told HB.

“I was so used to my crowd, Atlanta, my space, for me to just move away, and really experience a whole new world,” she said. “I definitely learned to be uncomfortable for a minute, to get back comfortable. I was stagnant for a minute and thinking that I was cool where I’m at. I’m glad that I made that move though,” she said. 

Even thought she’s a coast away from her daughter, Toya makes the cross-country trek out West at least four times a year.  “We always make sure that we talk,” Toya explained. “We have to talk every day. We’ll do several FaceTime calls just to check in.”

The pair said their communication has improved as they both grew to be more appreciative of the other’s opinion. Toya said while she does give her input on different aspects of Reginae’s dating life, like her spending habits, she also respects her autonomy as a woman.

“I totally understand that she’s an adult, and she’s going to do things the way that she wants to do it,” Toya said. “But as a mother, I feel like it’s my job to tell her when things are getting out of control or give her advice on how to do things a little different,” she added.

Reginae told HB that she had to knock her head a few times to come to the realization that most of her mother’s advice is gold. 

“She’s telling me for the best,” Reginae said agreeing with her muva. “Even if I’m hard-headed, and don’t want to listen, I’ll come back in a couple of days, weeks, months, whatever, and be like, mommy, you was right. I apologize. So the more that happens, the more I’m like, okay, I’m going to just go with what she said.” she said

A lesson for us all: Black mamas be right. 

WeTV’s Toya and Reginae season 2 premieres January 24 at 9p EST and streams exclusively on ALLBLK in January.
