Sevyn Streeter is loving on herself these days. Despite a pandemic and the recent loss of a loved one, which she details in our December cover story, the chart-topping singer and songwriter is the happiest she’s ever been.
“I feel more myself than I ever have in my entire life,” Streeter says in between outfit changes at our December cover photo shoot. She’s wearing a red fur jacket with patent leather lapels. Her natural hair fills out the frame of the last shot. “I’m really happy. I’m really at peace. I’ve been really working on finding things about myself that I think are dope,” she continues. Among those dope things is her hair, which is her “vibe” right now.
“We wanted to do our version of hat holiday glam looks like,” says celebrity hairstylist Miles Jeffries who collaborated with Sevyn on their version of “holiday glam.” “We wanted to keep her natural texture but wanted to have a more groomed more intentional holiday glam.”
Using clip-ins, Sevyn and Jeffries were able to take Sevyn’s natural curls to new heights, giving it body along the way. The It Won’t Stop singer remembers a time when those options weren’t available to women with tresses like hers.
“Growing up having hair like ours it’s textured and thick we didn’t always have the right hair care products or clip-ins and extensions that looked like our hair. Now that we have that luxury, I’m like let’s play around with it.”
Before jetting back off to change into her next look, Sevyn reflects on her favorite look from the shoot — the ruffling red dress. “I just like how dramatic it was,” she says.
