Plus size model Ashley Graham was one of the red carpet hosts for the 91st Annual Academy Awards. The supermodel sported a sleek low bun by celebrity hairstylist Justine Marjan. Hair accessories are currently trending, so the bun was accented with velvet bows. We also saw actress Letitia Wright sporting embellished pearl pins in her hair. We loved this style and got all the details on how to get the look and make it curly girl friendly in five easy steps! Keep on reading below.

STEP 1
First, you want to start with clean hair. Prep damp hair with TRESemmé Thermal Creations Blow Dry Balm ($4.87, Walmart.com) and blow dry hair with a center part using the ghd AIR Hair Dryer ($199.00, ghdhair.com).You always want to use some kind of thermal protectant to prevent your hair from heat damage (particularly if you do not straighten it often).

STEP 2
Under all the hot lights, you don’t want your hair to revert! Marjan flat ironed the roots with the ghd Platinum + Styler ($249.00, ghdhair.com). With natural curls, feel free to go over the hair once if you want it straighter, but blow drying it should do just fine. Ursula Stephen, who provided the sleek hairstyle for Wright, used a good ole fashion press comb, heating it up “in the ceramic heater stove and ran it through her hair which also helped to add shine.”

Now it’s time to gather your hair into this bun! Gather top half of hair, applying TRESemmé TRES Two Extra Hold Gel ($4.89, Target.com). We also love Shea Moisture Jojoba Oil and Ucuuba Butter Laydown Laquer Gel ($9.49, Walmart.com) it’s super hydrating, making it perfect for type 4 hair. For Wright’s sleek look, Stephan used a combination of Love Beauty and Planet Coconut Milk & White Jasmine Soft Hold & Shine Hair Spray (check LoveBeautyPlanet.com for buying options) and a strong gel. She then let it set for a bit to truly take hold. Apply your gel of choice to roots and brush it through with a flat brush and secure with a Kitsch elastic ($4.00, UrbanOutfitters.com). We love the clear ones so they blend perfectly into your hair. Repeat this same move for the bottom of the hair.
STEP 4
Apply a hairnet over the ponytail and twist into a bun, secure with french pins.
STEP 5
Now it’s time for fun! Marjan told us during NYFW that hair accessories were going to be a major trend for 2019 and we have been seeing it all over the red carpet and at high profile events. She applied Jennifer Behr bows throughout, securing with French pins.

If you aren’t into the bows, you can pull a Letita Wright and secure embellished pearls throughout your bun.
