Grieving Father Pleads With Trump To Allow Entry Into U.S. For Daughter’s Funeral
A heartbroken father from Jamaica made an impassioned request via video asking the U.S. government to allow him entry to the U.S. so that he can attend his 11-year-old daughter’s funeral, AbbieGail “Abbie” Smith.
“My dear little AbbieGail was taken away and I need to pay my last respects to her,” Kenroy Smith said in a video posted on APP.com. “That’s all I’m asking.”
Authorities discovered AbbieGail’s body wrapped in a blanket on the top of her New Jersey apartment building last week, days after she was reported missing. The 11-year-old was stabbed in the neck. Andreas Erazo, an upstairs neighbor, was charged with Smith’s murder and is currently being held in the Monmouth County jail awaiting his bail hearing.
In an emotional video, Smith asks President Trump to intervene on his family’s behalf.
“Please let me see my daughter for the last day before she goes under,” he said.
Smith’s eldest daughter Kenish’s visa application was denied, while Smith’s application remains in limbo. Smith was deported back to Jamaica 16-years-ago stemming from a marijuana charge. His visa request is expected to be made available on Friday.
“AbbieGail Smith needs her sister there at the moment,” Kenish Smith said. “Who’s going to stand up for us? We have no control. We can’t do it on our own.”
According to APP.com, Kenish was not given a reason why her application was denied despite inquiring. Latisha Smith, another sister who resides in Maryland, has made multiple attempts to contact government officials to no avail.
AbbieGail’s funeral will take place on Monday in Kensburg.
“We’re a family. We all need to be together for AbbieGail,” Kenish said. “The government — I just hope they hear my cry.”
