Muslim Beauty blogger Nura Afia is the newest ambassador for Cover Girl.

Nura is a beauty blogger with over 200,000 subscribers. The mom shows makeup tutorials of her applying makeup using everything from drugstore brands to their high end versions.

With Nura now representing one of the largest beauty brands in the world, she is the first, for Cover Girl, to have a woman wearing a hijab in their ads. Cover Girl has truly embraced a diversity initiative, also recently announcing their first Cover Boy, makeup artist, James Charles.

Nura began watching YouTube beauty videos to help the time pass while breast feeding her newborn daughter. While watching these videos, she was disappointed and perplexed in the lack of representation of Muslim women, so she started creating her own. She has everything from a timely Fall, burnt orange smokey eye to a timeless smokey eye (with over 300K views).

Nura is aware of the significance of this campaign, stating,

“I hope [this campaign] will show Muslim women that brands care about us as consumers and we’re important.”

Nura’s ad will appear in a Times Square Billboard and commercials. One step forward in diversity representation in the beauty industry.

Congrats, Nura!
