The artist who was supposed to sculpt a Martin Luther King Jr. statue for the Georgia Capitol grounds was killed by a drunk driver, according to reports.

Via The Griot:

Henry County Coroner Donald Cleveland says his office was informed Sunday night by Grady Memorial Hospital that Andy Davis died there. He was 53.

Cleveland says Davis was pronounced brain dead at 9:50 p.m.

Authorities say Davis was rear-ended while on his motorcycle Saturday morning. The  20-year-old driver was charged with driving under the influence. This is so tragic, but at least he left a legacy of great work behind.

Some of Davis’ other work includes a bronze sculpture of Ray Charles in Albany, GA.
