It has taken a while, but Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. will finally be honored in his home state of Georgia. Artist Andy Davis has been chosen to create a sculpture that will be in the Capitol grounds, overlooking Liberty Plaza.

The best part about it is that the MLK statue will replace one of Tom Watson,  who was a White supremacist politician. Now while we definitely should not mistake symbolic changes for ones that bear real consequence to the lives of everyday Black people, it makes a huge difference when a state chooses to recognize particular people in history.

We applaud Georgia for this move.
