After a week hiatus Scandal came back with a vengeance and there was a lot happening in the Capitol. Catching up with Olivia and the gang proved to be a rousing dark twisty mess, check out what you missed after the jump!
Sally Langston for President? Doubtful. Even with the second best campaign manager in Washington helping her out, she’s got too many negatives against her to even dream of winning. When said manager tells her she must rid herself of the belief against abortion the inner turmoil she faces is palpable. But even after she decides she can do it, it’s the conversation she has with Fitz that lets us know she’d never make it into the Oval. Announcing her resignation as a move she made due to his advice he kindly lets her know that winning is out of her reach and she should forget about it. Like the bug she is Sally refuses to die and tells the president she’ll meet him on podium. That is if she can get through the trap laid for her by Mellie and Cyrus.

Continuously forcing James to walk the plank in their marriage and using him as a pawn in all his schemes, Cyrus Beene has seriously taken his plot too far. Setting up an interview between he and Vice President Sally Langston’s husband’s he hoped James would act on his emotions after being betrayed again and sure enough he fell right into the trap. Sleeping with Daniel Douglas and unknowingly being photographed by his husband, James thinks he’s finally beaten Cyrus at his own game. After dropping hints the entire episode alluding to his moment with Mr. VP Cyrus finally lets him in on a little secret, he already knew. This is when we finally see James show some gusto and let Cyrus know he wants a divorce. Sad to say, his request was met with the a speedy, “Shut up!” and the mention of photos. Once again James is stuck serving as his husband’s convenient toy with no power.

The saying goes not to bite the hand that feeds you and for some time now Quinn has been nibbling away. It seems enough was enough for Huck once Quinn betrayed Olivia and found herself working for B613. Shonda takes us deeper inside Huck’s terrorized mind as he talks lovingly to his next victim about how he’s going to hurt her badly even though she’s family. When Huck licks Quinn’s face I think we all realized just how sick he may be deep down inside, but as usual with Shondaland things are not always what they seem. Though Huck successfully pulls out Quinn’s teeth she is saved heroically by her creep of a boyfriend, Huck’s nemesis and Rowan’s right hand man, Charlie. Who comes to her rescue hoping that she will be able to assist Command in finding Olivia and the Associates before they set her mother free. Only time will tell which team Baby Huck’s allegiance is pledged to but for now she’s still toeing the line.

We’ve all been made to believe that Olivia has been in dire need of a security team with a father like Rowan yet after her mother shows up unexpectedly to her apartment and the details start to surface of her captivity we find that perhaps he isn’t as vicious as we thought. According to Mama Pope, Rowan has been holding her hostage because she was going to out him and his line of work to the authorities and she’s been locked up for twenty-two years telling herself stories of who Olivia is. This puts the gang right to work on trying to get her free from the watchful eye and killing hand of Command but problems arise quickly. After finding out that she needed to escape, Jake decides the team could use some presidential assistance. Here we are again watching Fitz and Jake vy for the chance to save Olivia’s day and once again Jake comes up short. Capping the conversation with, “You don’t want to be a hero, you want to be HER hero.” Which we all know is no one’s job but Mr. Grant’s. While everyone tries to find some way to get mother dearest shipped off to a safe country we spy a little bit more into Harrison’s life when a stranger who provides government ID fakes calls him “H” and mentions the person that has him wiggling like the hyenas when they heard Mufasa. With all the pieces into to place the team faces a glitch when they realize Ms. Maya Pope has been placed on the no fly list. It’s then that Liv finally decides to call her knight in a shining blue suit to get some advice. Of nothing makes him move faster than the sounds of a lip quiver and he dispatches a plane for the excavation of her mother. All’s well that ends well, right? Not quite. The flashbacks from the day of her disappearance continue to reveal more about what really happened. The phone call she was on prior to her departure and even the call that came after from these small minor details Olivia is able to piece together that her mother isn’t exactly who she claims to be. Though should we be shocked that a woman who ate through her own arm may not have any secrets?!

With her mother saying goodbye once more Olivia is brought back to the moment as a young girl after her mother leaves when the phone rings. The caller asks for a “Marie” and young Livvie hangs up informing the caller they’ve got her mother’s name wrong. Yet just like the savvy sleuth she is, Olivia realizes that in her plan to help her mother she missed something. Turns out the truth is scary dad has been trying to protect Olivia from her terrorist of a mother for her entire life and now she just set her free. On her man’s private jet. Ruh roh. Meanwhile, after trying to threaten Sally into backing down from her desire to run for office against Fitz, Cyrus shows her the photos of their husbands in the throes of passion which sends her into a spiral resulting in the killing of her man. Looks like Sally is going to need some fixing soon. And finally, after being saved by her spy boo, we find out Quinn has been playing both sides again and told Huck she would like to keep her life by giving him something valuable. As the episode draws to a close we see her once again with a needle and from the looks of things, it has Command’s name written all over it.
