The Academy of Motion Picture Arts & Sciences has crowned a new president and get this–she’s a woman and she’s Black! Oh, you don’t know what this “Academy” is? These are the very important people who pick the Oscar winners. Congratulations are in order for Cheryl Boone Isaacs!

It’s being reported that he is the first African-American to head the 86-year-old organization and only the third woman to serve as president. Previously the Vice President, Isaacs was voted in by the 48 board of governors and beat out governor, Rob Friedman.

As president, Isaacs will serve for a year, with the option of serving three more. She will have to handle renewal contracts for the Academy’s top executives, as well as overseeing the opening of a Los Angeles Movie Museum, which promises to become the Academy’s largest venture to date!
