Make no mistake, women have been fighting in the front lines of war since the Civil War. Back in those days, they had to disguise themselves as men, so that they could fight.
According to the Washington Post, “senior defense officials say Pentagon chief Leon Panetta is removing the military’s ban on women serving in combat, which will open hundreds of thousands of front-line positions and potentially elite commando jobs after more than a decade at war.
So wait…women have been fighting with no way of moving up in rank or gaining recognition for their service in the military. It’s a good thing Joint Chiefs of Staff recommended this ban be lifted. In 1994, there were rules keeping women from being assigned to smaller combat unite and Panetta’s choice gives a deadline of 2016 for military services to seek special exceptions if they want certain positions closed to women.
