Karl Lagerfeld‘s Chanel Haute Couture shows have always been more about the showcase and less about the clothes. For his Spring/Summer 2013 collection, Karl sent a parade of pale statuesque models down the catwalk in frilly sequined tulle dresses and gowns. But what caught our attention was the two identical brides who took the final bow, who were holding hands, escorted by Karl’s godson.
According to The Guardian, Karl said it was a symbol of support for the controversial French gay marriage law. “I don’t even understand the debate,” he said. “Since 1904 the church and state have been separate.”
Similar to when President Obama publicly endorsed gay marriage in America, the French community has been divided in opinion which has sparked enormous protests both in favor and against the law. Despite efforts against the law, their government is determined pass the law by June.
