Newark, NJ Wants Taxpayers To Put Up $187K For Whitney Houston’s Funeral
Whitney Houston’s funeral was held in her hometown of Newark, NJ on February 18th or this year. As much as the city dwellers loved Houston, they’re none too happy about having to foot the bill–which comes from the cost of security at the church. Most of the Newark residents weren’t even allowed anywhere near the star-studded home-going event. One person even suggested that if the family wanted the funeral to be this way (heavily secured) then they should have paid for it.
The overtime pay accounts for about five percent of the department’s $4 million annual budget, CBS New York reports. Of course the police presence was necessary, but should the residents of Newark be responsible for paying for the police at a funeral they weren’t even allowed to attend?
