In a situation that evokes thoughts of the 1950s, a high school prom has been relocated due to a white supremacists rally being held in the same venue.
Peachtree Ridge High School’s prom was set to take place on April 23 at the Evergreen Mariott Resort at Stone Mountain. Two hours earlier, a white supremacy rally would also happen in the park area of the resort, which happens to be public property. School officials ensured parents and students that prom would not conflict with the rally. The park had also retained additional police to patrol the area.
Due to the community’s continued apprehensions about student’s safety, the event has since been relocated to the Westin Buckhead.
Peachtree issued a statement to parents which says in part: “While we had been reassured that our prom and the other event would not overlap, we listened and understood the concerns raised by our community members and continued to look for alternative options. The voice of the Peachtree Ridge family has helped us in successfully relocating our students’ event.”
