Prisoner Dead After Scuffle With Prison Guards In New York State Prison

An inmate suffering from bipolar disorder died of cardiac arrhythmia after being beaten by prison guards at Fishkill Correctional Facility earlier this year, reports the New York Times. The inmate, Samuel Harrell, was confronted by the guards when he packed his bags and claimed that he was returning home, although he hadn’t finished serving his drug sentence. The guards neglected to note the scuffle with Harrell in the incident, yet a slew of eyewitnesses that served time alongside Harrell have detailed the horrific encounter to Harrell’s family and others investigating the incident. They claim they have been punished by being beaten, choked and even thrown into solitary confinement. Read more at the NY Times.

IRS Data Breach Now Estimated To Have Hit 334,000 Americans

The IRS is reeling from embarrassment now that the potential victims of stolen tax information has ballooned by another 220,000, bringing the total number of those impacted to 334,000. The IRS has also announced that the breach started earlier than previously thought—as early as May. Meanwhile, the Office of Personnel Management is also suffering from a data breach that has affected over 21 million people. Read more at ABC News.

Mourners Gather In Bangkok Over Shrine Bombing, Suspect Caught On Camera

At least 20 people were killed and over 120 were left injured from the explosion that was set off at Bangkok’s Erawan Hindu shrine on Monday. Now footage just before the incident reveals a man in a yellow shirt leaving behind a backpack at the explosion site; there was a separate bombing the following day at a pier in Bangkok as well, but no one was hurt. Foreigners from China, Hong Kong, the UK, Indonesia, Malaysia and Singapore were among those murdered in the explosion. As authorities are searching for the culprit, there’s been increased security at public transportation spots and popular tourist areas. It is believed that the bombing suspect isn’t Thai. It has also been noted that the method of the bombing is different than those committed against Thai perpetrators in the past. Read more at BBC News.

Gun Rights Activists Looking To Arm MO Blacks With Rifles

Oath Keepers, a group of gun rights activists, are now trying to get AR-15 rifles in the hands of Black residents for a march in St. Louis County advocating the rights yielded with Missouri’s open-carry law. The head of the St. Louis chapter says he is leading the march because members were told they could not carry their weapons openly in public and is claiming that journalists Joe Biggs and Jakari Jackson of Infowars.com asked for the Oath Keepers’ presence. Biggs and Jackson have denied making such a request. Local police chief Jon Belmar has spoken out against the group, saying he is concerned that their work is inflammatory and will only incite unnecessary violence. Read more at The Root.
