BEAUTIFUL NEWS: LeBron James Gifts 1,100 Students With College Scholarships Through His Foundation

LeBron James helped secure scholarships for 1,100 children.

Seriously, he does. James understands the importance of getting an education and has made it a mission of the LeBron James Family Foundation to positively impact the lives of children and young adults through various educational initiatives to support them on their respective journeys to college.

One facet of James’ foundation is the “I Promise” program, which has 1,100 participants, and on Thursday, James announced a partnership between his foundation, and the University of Akron to give a four-year college scholarship to each of those students (to attend the school).

According to CBS Sports, the scholarships, worth about $9,500 a year will cover tuition and Akron’s general services fee.

“It means so much because, as a kid growing up in the inner city and a lot of African-American kids, you don’t really think past high school,” James later told reporters. “You don’t really know your future. You hear high school all the time, and you graduate high school and then you never think past that because either it’s not possible or your family’s not financially stable to even be able to support a kid going to college.”

The first class eligible for a scholarship will graduate in the spring of 2021. YAAAAAASSSSSS!!!!

I am a product of a similar arrangement. Programs like this really do work, as long as the people involved maintain their support of the children involved.
