Michael Sam Up For Grabs After Being Cut By St. Louis Rams

Members of the St. Louis Rams won’t have to worry about Michael Sam‘s locker room habits any more.

It was revealed today that Michael, the NFL’s first openly gay recruit, has not made the cut. ESPN.com reports that he was among the last players that the Rams eliminated from their roster earlier.

He had been battling for a spot on the team’s defensive squad against Ethan Westbrooks, and the Rams eventually chose Ethan. No reason has been given as to why the team opted not to keep Michael on the team, but he made a great impression with head coach Jeff Fisher.

“I will tell you this: I was pulling for Mike,” Jeff told reporters earlier today. “I really was, and I don’t say that very often. Mike came in here and did everything we asked him to do.”

Mike was gracious in accepting the Ram’s decision, and he thanked the team for their time.

“I want to thank the entire Rams organization and the city of St. Louis for giving me this tremendous opportunity and allowing me to show I can play at this level,” he tweeted this afternoon. “I look forward to continuing to build on the progress I made here toward a long and successful career.”

He concluded, “The most worthwhile things in life rarely come easy, this is a lesson I’ve always known.”

This might not be the end of the road for Michael yet! He’s now officially up for grabs to any other team in the league, and interested parties have until noon on Sunday to snag him!
