Legendary Author & Poet Dr. Maya Angelou Dies
It is with great sadness that we report, legendary author Dr. Maya Angelou has died, Helen Brann, her publicist said Thursday. The renown poet and novelist passed away in her Winston-Salem, N.C. home after suffering from health problems. She was found by her caretaker.

The icon was known for one of her most famous autobiographies “I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings,” but also penned some of the most pivotal poems in history, including “Still I Rise” and “Phenomenal Woman.” President Obama awarded her with the Medal of Freedom in 2011 and she was slated to receive a “Beacon of Life” award at the 2014 MLB Beacon Award Luncheon in Houston.
