With that being said I must say that I am not as offended by the “USE” of the word as I am about the “ACTING OUT” the disparaging meaning of this word. You see as stated in one of Tyler Perry’s movies…..”It’s not what you are called, it’s what you answer to.” If we as a people would learn to first love and respect ourselves then we can learn to love and respect each other which would aid tremendously in the defanging of this word. The word simply would not have an effect on us because it would not apply to us. It starts with us, individually, then spreads to others. HOWEVER I would like to compliment both of you and others for keeping the dialogue on an intelligent level. There have been subjects on this site where the comments were totally off the subject and resulted in nasty, and disrepectful comments towards each other. They have gotten so bad until if you read them you forgot just what the original subject was about. We as a people have very little tolerant for someone who does not agree with us. Especially one of our own. It’s okay to agree, it’s okay to disagree and somethings the only option is to agree to disagree.

Its a growing trend -some white females who talk to black males think they have a, “hood pass” so to speak and use the N word liberally. Happens also among the young brothers hanging out with their friends from different ethnic backgrounds too. The issue here is respect which we as black people have lost for ourselves and so this is a runaway train at the moment.

That is why I don’t get to comfortable with my co-workers of different races. Before you know it, they begin touching you – i.e. fist bump, high five, etc.

Then they feel negative conversations about race are appropriate.

Then they use words like “Wigger” to describe Whites who act like Blacks.

Then the next thing you hear is the “N” word.

Real friends and neighbors are one thing. But people you only see in the work environment is something else.

Context people. If a black man in a business suit walked up to me and said “hey whats up my n!gga” I would look at him strange and keep walking. If said man walked up to me and said “out of my way n****r” We would have a problem. I don’t think she was trying to be derogatory, she just thought she was stating the name of the band and she found out she’s uneducated in that aspect as the name of the band is actually Niggaz With Attitude but evidently nobody bothered to explain this to her.

What I don’t understand is the uproar when someone uses the word. Yes it carries a very negative meaning, but I don’t view it as any worse than when someone refers to me as a Redskin or Geronimo or Apache or many of the other names people throw around when they learn I’m Native American. A Mom and son in New York, raped and killed a disabled woman
Parents are worthless and weak, how are children going to be strong
Seldom you see a Man and Woman together holding a child’s hand

Males think that how big they are below is what makes them a Man
They know that how long they lay between females legs is all it takes
Wake-up Family, the way we are thinking is part of a destructive plan
Our Children and our Race need some Real People, not ignorant fakes

President Obama and First Lady Michelle are prime examples of Real
Follow their lead and our children will go to colleges instead of prisons
We have no money for their education but find it for them to make bail

She was not the one who named the group NWA. I don’t think she should have said it but I am sure other races use it every day. It certainly does not make it right but it is reality. I hate the word more than anyone else but we must stop calling each other that before it will cease to exist. We use it in music and in reality based shows but we expect others to not use it. I agree with other postings that state that we have to respect ourselves before others respect us. I also believe the “N” word is relegated to certain people. It is any person who acts ignorant. These are the ones that kill without discretion, sell drugs, abuse their kids, having baby after baby without being married(Men and Women), drive down your street with loud music, loud and ignorant people and the people who blame everyone else for their problems. This can be any nationality. I remember something that Chris Rock said, “I love black people but I hate N######!”

Often times when I am singing a song, I will correct the grammar without even thinking about it. So Niggaz with Attitudes is a play on words. What did they mean by it? We all know it. She didn’t mean any harm by saying the name of the group.

To me, the name of the group was offensive, and although they are loved by many, I feel they ruined rap and the progress our youth were making in this country. I think when they came out black enrollment in college was up 4 fold on the heals of the Cosbys and A Different World. Remember how we felt about “Self Destruction,” before this? After this nonsense, people started to change focus.

I went to the Live Aid concert and there weren’t many black people there. I was in a crowd of thousands who were singing with the artist, “I’m not saying she’s a gold digger, but she aint messin with no broke N****R.” Not Nigga. I have never been so uncomfortable in my life. We created that situation.

Don’t you get it? There is no difference between Nigga, Niggaz, etc. Is it cool to call your brother nigga (n****r) or dog? That is someone’s child. I honor you; can you honor me too? (sorry for the long post)

Reverse Racisim? This is the only country that prejudges a person based on skin color alone. It goes in all directions and we are all guilty. That’s right, I said we and all. I have fallen prey to the influance of racisim. In seeing this character defect in myself, I decided to make a change. This change starts with the mirror. Also the contextual meaning of words change as culture changes. Today you have to look at the context to determine if the word “bad” is relating to something that is very good or something bad. Like a “bad apple” compared to a “bad mother f**er.”

Charlie Sheen caught slack when he call his estranged white wife, Denise Richards a n****. They were going thorugh a divorce. If Denise Richards is a n**** does that mean Sheen is a n****-lover or maybe he didn’t know she was a n**** until after he married her.

How can you possibly be upset with the lady for calling the name of the group by their proper name? If they were stupid enough to give themselves that name, then blame them for setting us back, not her. You want their name to go away, stop buying their music. And yes, it is hypocritical to call yourselves by that name and get upset when other races do. It doesn’t matter how you change the end of the word. Everybody knows the bottom line!! In latin communities the word cholo has always been defined as a ‘gangster’. I could not find one definition in any language of it meaning ‘dog’. A cholo when I was growing up was a newer version of a ‘pachuco’ which what gang members were called in my dad’s generation and a style of dress. A cholo in any latin circle you go to is always a way of pointing out a ‘gangster’

First of all it’s ni99as not “n****rs”. Two different words. Black Americanized Africans historically used the word as slang as it pertains to “black” vernacular. White Americanized Europeans historically used it as a descriptive pronoun as it pertains to “white” vernacular. With that said, I consider either pronunciation and/or use of the word as vulgur. Therefore, I don’t believe anyone should use the N-word except in intimate circ**stances as a legacy bonding ritual for Black Americanized Africans. Did she call anyone that word? No. Now lets move on.

I haven’t ever seen the show and I’ve read all of the comments. I am amazed at how hypocritical some of the posters have been. I see people making comments about how it is okay for a black person to say it, but not a white person to. That is wrong. You all talk about racism and how wrong it is. Do you realize how racist some of you sound just because you say a white person can NOT say it, but a black person can? We live in America, we should ALL be able TO say it or ALL not able to say it.

I even read the argument between Cali and Perionne (sp?). Cali keeps referring to Kim as the “white woman”. How would you feel if I kept referring to you as the “black woman”? I’m pretty sure you’d be offended. She has a name, and you have not used it once (from what I saw). This also makes you look racist, or rather uncaring.

As per the actual “offense”? She named a band (whom I’ve never even heard of until now) by their name, and now people are upset about it. I can understand that. But, what I understand even more is that I am from the NE of the US. African-Amerians (is this still the PC term?) call white people w1ggars all the time and we laugh it off. There have been racist terms for WHITE and HISPANIC people as long as there have been for African-Americans.

Yes, the word could be construed as a bad word. However, if you are offended by a WORD maybe you should be considering WHY it offends you so much. Slavery happened over 100 (?) years ago. Most of us were NOT directly affected by it and have EQUAL opportunities (if not more then other races) for employment, schooling, financial aid (etc). For the people bringing slavery into this – please don’t. It’s like talking about what exactly happens in Iraq, when you’ve never even been there.

I’d also like to make a comment about the racist folks who are saying white people are constantly holding up line with food stamps, etc. Please. Do your research before you actually post something as ignorant as that. Majority of folks on food stamps (which btw, it is NOT white people) are illegals – of ANY race. Look at the latest census for proof, turns out they have been getting illegal benefits for YEARS and taking it away from people that actually NEED it.

As per it being looked bad for being on WIC (I saw a few comments on this), we are a military family and make little to nothing for our service. We have been on WIC since I was pregnant with my first daughter (of 2). This does NOT mean we are trailer park trash, or worthless in society. In fact, we make less then min. wage – and I had to personally give up my job as an ADA for my husband’s military career. It all comes down to this – just because you stand in line an extra 5 seconds, doesn’t mean they are a waste of humanity. It means they are rough times, living off money less then YOU do. Have some compassion (esp. if you claim to be “Christian”) and get over the wait. We are a military family, putting OUR lives and FAMILY on the line so you can keep spewing your junk. Keep that in mind.

She did nothing wrong. She named a band (?). Worse things are said everyday towards other people, and I don’t see HALF of the response I do for that. What about the protests on the military grave sights? Not much support there as there is a sh1tstorm over THIS! Get a grip!
