Mary J Blige filing for divorce from her husband of 12 years, Kendu Isaacs, seemed to come out of no where.

While the couple have been mum on their relationship in recent years, Blige is now speaking out about the divorce in a statement.

Her rep says: Ms. Blige is saddened to say [that] it is true that she has filed for divorce, saying sometimes things don’t work how we hoped they would… but, there is a divine plan and a reason for everything. Mary will continue writing and working on her album, which is due out later this year along with her world tour. She thanks and appreciates her fans for their support and love through this very difficult emotional time.

Blige cited irreconcilable differences for the reason for the filing and allegedly asked a judge to block Isaacs from requesting or obtaining spousal support after the divorce, reports TMZ.

Blige and Isaacs were married on December 7, 2003 in a private ceremony. The couple do not have any children together, but Issacs does have three children from a previous relationship.

“It definitely feels like an achievement. I never thought I’d last this long in a marriage,” the singer said about her manager/husband in a 2014 interview with The Telegraph.

“He always has my back – he’s going to fight to the death for Mary J Blige. The downside is that there’s no separation – it’s on all the time. When you don’t feel like answering to your manager, he’s still your husband.”

We hope these two have an amicable, drama-free split. And we also look forward to that upcoming #fire album she’s going to put out.
