Paula Patton is pretty pleased with the direction her life has taken since she ended things with Robin Thicke.

The time for tears is over, and Patton revealed to Meredith Vieira that she’s taken some very important lessons from her divorce.

“You know, I’m doing really well. It’s been a long year and a lot of challenges but I’ve grown quite a bit and just getting used to change,” Patton said.

Getting used to a new normal has been an adjustment for Patton, but she’s learned to look for the good things in her life and find joy in them. One huge positive opportunity, Patton said, has been the chance to mature in a whole new way.

“I live in a place of gratitude and growing up in many ways I think,” she said. “I moved from my parents house to moving in with Robin, and now I’m like becoming an adult at this old age. I’m really like a real woman now.”

But part of being an adult may be learning to cope with a touch of working mom guilt. The actress took a lot of time off to focus on her son, Julian Fuego, but he’s still not quite ready to share her with the world.

“I had to pack for a trip because I had to go to work and he said, ‘Mommy I don’t want you to go to work.’ It’s the challenge of being a working mother,” she said, adding that she had to call on her own mom for comfort once she was alone. “I cried. I called my mom and I cried and she said, ‘Darling, I had to work. We all hear that.”

Thicke’s keeping an eye on Julian while Pattons’s busy, though. TMZ.com reports that the “Blurred Lines” singer was spotted heading to the grocery story with his son and his new girlfriend.
