It’s time for another story to celebrate Black excellence! Introducing 16-year-old Grace Bush, a Florida wiz kid who earned her college degree a week before graduating high school!
That’s right, this brilliant young woman received her bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from the Florida Atlantic University on Friday and now she’s looking forward to walking across the stage to get her diploma this week.
“It’s kind of weird that I graduated college before high school,” said told CBS Miami. “I started when I was 13 at Broward College and I also took my classes throughout the summer, so I was able to finish it before four years.”
Grace took advantage of her high school’s dual enrollment program, which allows gifted students to earn college credit for degree courses while studying at school. The program also allowed the Bush family to save thousands of dollars in tuition, a huge help considering Grace comes from a family of nine children.
According to her mother Gisla (who home schooled all of her kids), Grace was always a hardworking and smart child. “At two years old, she was already reading and I was totally shocked,” she said.
So what next for the teenager? Grace said she plans to pursue a master’s degree this fall and then go to law school. “I would eventually like to become chief justice of the United States,” she shared.
You go, girl!
