She did it!

First time nominee Lupita Nyong’o won the Academy Award for “Best Supporting Actress” for her role in “12 Years A Slave.” Lupita whisked to the Oscars stage carrying her powder blue Prada gown and gracefully accepted the golden statue for her stellar performance in the Steve McQueen-directed film.

The Kenyan actress glowed as she thanked her castmate Chiwetel Ejioforfor his courageousness and teared up while thanking her younger brother who attended the ceremony with her.

“It doesn’t escape me for one moment that so much joy in my life is thanks to so much pain in someone else’s,” she said of her role as Patsey in “12 Years A Slave.” “This has been the joy of my life. I’m certain that the dead are standing about you are watching and are grateful and so am I.”

She ended her enchanting speech saying, “When I look down at this golden statue, may it remind me and every little child that no matter where you’re from, your dreams are valid.”

Lupita also snagged the Screen Actors Guild and Critics’ Choice Award for “Best Actress in a Supporting Role.”
