1. Chrisette Michele – What You Do ft. Ne-Yo
Nothing solidifies a break up more than a hit “I’m completely over you” song. Back 2009, Chrisette’s “What You Do ft. Ne-Yo” was a track women all over the world kept on repeat in hopes of demanding more everything from their significant others.
2. Lil' Mo – 4Ever ft. Fabolous
Back when R&B was the only music the world listened to, my fellow Baltimorean Lil’ Mo flooded the charts with hits. This classic with her and Fabolous is a 90’s party favorite and I guarantee you that all your friends know the words. If they don’t, you might need new friends.
3. Leela James – Say That ft. Anthony Hamilton
Whenever I need to really zone out and focus, Leela James’ voice helps me get there. There’s never been another songstress with the tone that Leela has. And for this I thank her…she’s gotten me through quite a few study sessions.
4. Michel'le – No More Lies
Hopefully my 80’s babies are reading this post, because this takes me back to those pajama parties in Lakeisha’s basement. You remember, your crush comes in and you act like you can’t be bothered.
5. Chante Moore – Love's Taken Over
I’m pretty sure that growing up I had no idea what love really was. But sneaking out into our living room to secretly record “The Quiet Storm” because love was too much to bear at 16-years-old seemed like a real adult thing to do at the time. #LessonsLearned
