The 25th annual BET Awards still have everyone talking, as the star-studded show featured memorable performances, tributes, and award recipients, but not everyone was happy about how things turned out.

Championship boxer Claressa Shields took to social media to make her feelings clear about losing the Sportswoman of the Year award to Chicago Sky star Angel Reese in a series of posts.

”Still don’t know how I didn’t win the Sportswoman of the Year for the @BETAwards but Congrats to Angel Reese and all the other Nominees. I just thought accolades mattered,” Shields wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter.

After immediately receiving pushback and criticism from fans, Shields continued to make her case about why she felt she deserved to win over the WNBA star who broke multiple records in her rookie season in 2024.

“Ain’t nobody saying Angel Reese don’t have accolades or she not good…I’m saying I thought the person with “THE MOST” accolades & accomplishments would win the Award. I’m team Angel Reese,” she wrote.

”But let me gone head and make up for missing 2 days of grinding at the gym to attend all this BET stuff…I defend my undisputed Heavyweight Title July 26th, if (when) I win that fight I’ll be a 19x world champ,” Shields continued.

However, fans weren’t buying her proclaimed love for Reese, who they pointed out also has a long list of accolades, and Shields came back with a spicy response. “Yes she does but who has more accolades…More success in their field. Please use Google before responding,” she replied.

When called a “sore loser” by a fellow X user Shields responded, writing, “Naw you hate the facts.”

Shields attended the BET Awards with boyfriend Papoose, following the ongoing back-and-forth between Shield and Papoose’s soon-to-be ex-wife, rapper Remy Ma.
