Joy-Ann Reid Is Back And This Time On Her Own Terms
Good news for Joy-Ann Reid fans. The veteran journalist and former MSNBC anchor is returning to the spotlight with her very own independent show. Titled “The Joy Reid Show,” the series premieres June 9 and promises unfiltered commentary, deep-dive news analysis, and dynamic guest interviews—all without network constraints.
The show will kick off with comedian and writer Amber Ruffin, whose recent removal from the White House Correspondents’ Dinner sparked headlines after she reportedly clashed with the current administration. Also joining Reid for the premiere are Ebrahim Rasool, former South African ambassador to the U.S., and Newark Mayor Ras Baraka, who is currently running for New Jersey governor. Baraka will appear in a special preview episode just ahead of the state’s key June 10 primary.
“The Joy Reid Show” will stream three times a week—every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday—on YouTube and all major podcast platforms, giving Reid full control and her audience exactly what they’ve been waiting for: her voice, unfiltered and unapologetic.
“Throughout my career, I’ve been proud to serve as a trustworthy voice in journalism, particularly as a Black woman in spaces where the perspectives of women, and particularly women of color, are too often underrepresented,” Reid told fans in a statement. “This new podcast marks an exciting new chapter—an opportunity to reach broader audiences, build vibrant communities, and lead thoughtful conversations on the issues that matter,” she added. “I’m looking forward to offering a perspective that is both informed and unapologetically authentic.”
‘The ReidOut’ Gets Cancelled
Reid, former host of The ReidOut on MSNBC, saw her show canceled in February amid a broader programming overhaul led by new network president Rebecca Kutler. Under the shift, Kutler reshaped the primetime lineup, replacing “The ReidOut”—which had been on air since 2020—with a rotating panel of co-hosts from “The Weekend”: Symone Sanders-Townsend, Michael Steele, and Alicia Menendez.
At the time, Reid appeared to be in good spirits about the shocking decision.
“I just want to say thank you to everyone who has reached out with kindness and encouragement, both personally and in these social media streets,” the 56-year-old journalist penned on Facebook on Feb. 24. “So very proud of The ReidOut team, who are truly family, and all of our supporters and friends.”
Thankfully, Reid is back and better than ever now!
