Hugh Hefner, the man behind the Playboy empire and Playboy Enterprises, Inc., died on Wednesday from natural causes. He was 91.

Hefner founded Playboy magazine in 1953, launching the then-controversial publication with Marilyn Monroe on the cover. Hefner later became known for the Playboy mansion, which he sold in 2016 for $100 million. He has launched the careers of the likes Pamela Anderson, Kendra Wilkinson, Holly Madison and Bridget Marquardt.

Hefner is survived by his four children and wife Crystal Harris, who reportedly signed an “ironclad” prenuptial agreement and therefore won’t be inheriting any of his $43 million fortune.

The late trailblazer will be remembered for his contributions to sexual liberation and freedom of expression.
