One of these days, people are gonna learn to leave Zendaya alone, because she is clearly not the one.
Today’s culprit was Difficult People’s star Julie Klausner, who felt the need to come for the Spider-Man actress without being sent for. After watching the star on the 2016 Kids’ Choice Awards this past weekend, the little-known actress tweeted that Zendaya was a “thinspo model for your impressionable tweens” and that “You don’t have to have an eating disorder to attend the Kids’ Choice Awards….but it helps!”
Desperately needing the publicity, Klausner tweeted back “Can’t wait.” Zendaya brushed it off reminding her followers that all bodies can be beautiful.
While Zendaya moved on from the issue, Klausner kept pressing it, claiming she was just trying to let other young girls know that it’s OK to be whatever size, a message that Zendaya had already promoted.
“I will never stop criticizing celebs who perpetuate dangerous beauty standards for a generation of girls who grow up thinking they’re fat,” Klausner wrote. “I’m concerned with the generation of girls who aspire to look like Zendaya. I do not worry about Zendaya’s health or care whether she eats.”
Gurl bye. It’s one thing to be concerned about how pop culture can negatively impact young women’s body image, and it’s a completely different thing when you attack an innocent person for doing nothing more than existing. Not to mention, joking about someone being anti-Semitic because they wouldn’t allow you to come for them is dangerously immature.
But this is the kind tomfoolery that Klausner is known for.
Just last year, she came under fire for a tasteless and insensitive joke she made on her show last season where her character said that she cannot wait for when Beyonce’s toddler daughter Blue Ivy is old enough for R. Kelly to pee on her. Sigh. Thankfully: Black Twitter roasted her. But, there is something to be said when grown-a$$ white women need to publicly attack and tear down Black women and girls in order to be relevant.
