On September 5, 2015, India Kager was in the driver’s seat of her car, which was parked at a 7-Eleven in Virginia Beach. A SWAT team approached her vehicle and her boyfriend, Angelo Perry, opened fire.

The officers proceeded to shoot 30 rounds of bullets into the car killing Kager and Perry. What officers claim to not have known was that Kager’s 4-month-old son Roman was in the back seat. The baby was unharmed, as Kager used her body to protect him.

Six months after the incident, Kager’s mother Gina Best says authorities won’t release the names of the officers that “accidentally” shot her daughter as a means to protect their safety.

Best has taken to Facebook where she recorded a gut wrenching video pleading for answers and for justice.

“I had decided to keep my grief private and home. But today I have to record,” Best said as she sat in front of a portrait of her slain daughter in her Navy uniform. “I want the world to know what a mother goes through when your child is stolen and executed for no reason.”

According to the NY Daily News, Perry was a suspected assailant in five area shootings. Ballistics tests found that the gun he used on the day of his death matched several violent crimes, including two murders. Police in plain clothes and unmarked vehicles were surveilling Perry as they had received a tip that he was allegedly preparing to commit another crime.

During a press conference, Virginia Police Chief Jim Cervera made the responding officers out to be heroes while seemingly justifying Kager’s death as collateral damage.

“[Shooting India Kager] was accidental. It was not intended. But they were right on top of each other as he was firing his weapon at the officers,” Cervera said. “In essence, the officers put themselves in harm’s way to prevent another act of violence which was to be perpetrated in our city.”

Police have publicly stated that Kager, a mother of two, was not involved with Perry’s prior crimes. Best believes that given the officers knowledge about Perry’s whereabouts, they must have to have known the baby was in the car and they should have handled the situation differently. The Washington Post, reported that the shootout took place in a mere 15 seconds.

“They threw a grenade at her car. They fired 30 rounds. Who does that? How do you do that? 30 rounds? They executed my baby in less than 3 hours of her being in Virginia Beach.”

She concluded the video in saying, “I won’t stop fighting for my baby. I won’t stop fighting for India. I won’t stop fighting for Roman. I won’t stop fighting for Evan. And I won’t stop fighting for Mr. Perry because he did not have due process of law.”
