Following the fatal shooting of 19-year-old Chicago native Quintonio LeGrier, his father, Antonio LeGrier has filed two wrongful death lawsuits with the Cook County Circuit Court.

LeGrier is seeking $100,000 in damages citing that the responding officers “used excessive force and failed to provide medical care as he lay bleeding on the floor.”

While discussing the incident on CNN with host Brooke Baldwin, LeGrier repeatedly apologized for crying and being overcome with emotion as he reflected on the situation that led to his son’s death.

“I wanted to reach down and grab him, but I wasn’t trained in CPR, so I didn’t know what to do. He was lying there and he was still alive and moving, and no one assisted him” said LeGrier.

The Northern Illinois University student was shot seven times. LeGrier said that even when the ambulance arrived, his son’s body was dragged away, as opposed to being administered CPR or any other life saving tactics.

Police were responding to the elder LeGrier’s call that his son was threatening him with an aluminum bat. Quintonio reportedly suffered from mental health issues, though it is unclear whether his father mentioned that to the 911 operator when he reported the incident.

In the midst of the police interaction with the teen, his 55-year-old neighbor, Bettie Jones was also fatally wounded.

Officers have acknowledged that Jones, a mother of five was “accidentally struck and tragically killed.”

Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel announced that he was cutting his vacation in Cuba short to ensure the LeGrier/Jones case is properly handled.

“There are serious questions about yesterday’s shootings that must be answered in full by the Independent Police Review Authority’s investigation,” Emanuel said.
