During the 2015 Soul Train Awards, Fantasia beautifully sang “Exhale” by the late Whitney Houston during the tribute to Babyface. She then proceeded to sing the 1988 hit song, “Superwoman” by Karyn White. It would be presumptuous, yet understandable for someone to think Karyn had died, so she wasn’t available to sing her own song.

Well, the two time Grammy nominated artist is alive and well! Having recently turned 50-years-old, Karyn looks flawless. #BlackDontCrack She was sitting at home watching the show when she was bombarded with calls, texts and social media messages with concerns about her well-being and questions as to why she wasn’t on stage.

“I never got a call from Babyface, BET, Centric or any Soul Train Music Awards affiliates so I don’t know” Karyn shared in a Facebook video message.

“Maybe they don’t know I’m back in the entertainment industry, it’s been a few years now” she added. The singer went on to plug her latest independent album, Carpe Diem (2012). She also shared that she’s currently on the “My Sisters And Me” tour with Deniece Williams, CeCe Peniston and Kathy Sledge.

However, Karyn definitely wasn’t too busy or booked to have performed on the show. She shared that she wanted to post the video to set the record straight, “It wasn’t me, I didn’t just not show up, thinking I’m on some diva shit, no!”

“I just wanted to clear this matter up and let you know that the Superwoman is here,” she said.

Here’s our theory as to why Karyn didn’t perform; her ex-husband probably wasn’t having it! Karyn is the former wife of super producer Terry Lewis who’s one half of Jimmy Jam & Terry Lewis. The duo along with Babyface have produced hits for everyone including Michael Jackson, Janet Jackson, Toni Braxton and more.

We bet Terry helped to wrangle the tribute performers which included Boys II Men, Tevin Campbell and Bobby Brown. So his ex-wife didn’t make the cut…shady…we know…but that’s just our hypothesis!

Regardless, we’re glad to see Karyn looking flawless and back to doing music!
