Add Queen Latifah to the list of Black women on the covers of popular magazines for the month of September. Latifah is the cover girl (no pun intended) of Variety magazine’s September issue.
This is quite phenomenal. BeyoncĂ© is the face of Vogue’s September Issue, Ciara is on the cover of Shape, Kerry Washington got Self, Misty Copeland is on the cover of Essence (but Essence always comes through, of course), Amandla Stenberg is on the cover of Dazed, and Serena Williams is on the cover of New York Magazine.
Never in my life have I seen this many Black women on the cover of popular magazines at the same time. Wow.
Hopefully this is a trend that continues, not just for Black women, but for all women of color who have long been underrepresented in the media.
