Texas residents are up in arms at a change in children’s textbooks that will be coming in the fall for the next school year. After a change to the books was voted on in 2010, history textbooks will hardly discuss segregation, the presence of the Ku Klux Klan or Jim Crow. Furthermore, in information presented about the Civil War, the book will attribute the cause of the war to states battling over their respective rights, rather than the institution of slavery. Confederate Flag Being Decided On By SC House Of Representatives
The state Senate may have passed their ruling to take down the Confederate flag from Capitol Grounds almost unanimously, but the House of Representatives is still far more divided on the issue. Only a day after their meetings were announced, direct correspondence between the Afghan government and the Taliban have come to an end. They have agreed to reconvene after Ramadan in Pakistan. Legal experts say that the determining factor in whether a suspect should stay in custody is the risk that they pose to the public, not the money they can pay to the legal system. Feminist Campaign Pressures FIFA To Give Equal Pay To Female Soccer Players
FIFA got quite the backlash when it became known that the woman’s soccer team has been getting unfair pay. The winning women’s team won $2 million but Ultraviolet, the women’s rights advocacy group, claims that a losing male team was awarded $9 million. Team USA made history by winning the Women’s World Cup for the third time. There is some good news since the group’s big win—New York City has announced that it will be holding a parade for the soccer champions this Friday in Manhattan. Undocumented Immigrant Killed SanFran Woman With Federal Agent’s Gun
The story of the Mexican man who randomly killed a San Francisco woman just took a bizarre turn. Juan Francisco Lopez-Sanchez killed Kate Steinle with a federal agent’s gun he had stolen from a car back in June. The shooter says he had killed Steinle by accident, and that he apologizes to the victim’s family. The .40-caliber pistol used in the attack was not the agent’s official gun. Read more at CNN.
