It’s no secret that for over a decade and a half now, Islampahobia has been on the rise in Uncle Sam. For whatever reason, some people think it’s okay to generalize and entire religion based on the acts of extremists who happen to identify with that religion. And in the latest case of Islamaphobia, Anti-Muslim Protestors went to a Phoenix Mosque and Islamic Center on Friday evening (A sacred time of prayer for Muslims) to “protest” in support of “freedom of speech” by drawing the Prophet Muhammed – a very offensive gesture in Islam. They were met by counter protestors who came to show solidarity with Muslims.
I don’t know if the bikers have been paying attention but maybe they should be protesting some of their own who are engaging in mass shootings? However, the president of the Islamic center Usama Shami said that he respected the protestors right to protest. He told the local Chanel 12 News the following, “”Everybody has a right to be a bigot. Everybody has a right to be a racist. Everybody has a right to be an idiot.” Indeed.
Anyway, the reaction to this from coalitions of interfaith advocates (and generally decent people) has been nothing short of wonderful. Here are some of tweets from the #NotMyAmerica:
