California police are looking into a shooting that left one mother dead and two other people injured.
Chyemil Pierce was gunned down on Monday afternoon in Oakland, California, while protecting her children. The Los Angeles Times reports that the 30-year-old mother had just picked up her two kids from day care when they found themselves in the middle of a volatile altercation.
She had almost gotten the kids, a 7-year-old boy and a 9-year-old girl, in the house as shots rang out. Chymeil told them to run; she was shot once as they hid.
When cops arrived, Chymeil was still breathing, but she had suffered a serious wound. She died moments later.
It’s unclear what led up to the shooting, but two other people were also injured as a result in the crossfire. Police found a teen with multiple gun shot wounds near the location of the shooting, but a man from the area was later dropped off at a nearby hospital.
Police are looking for any information they can get on the shooting. No arrests have been made yet.
