It’s been 14 years since D’Angelo has blessed our ear drums with some musical awesome, but he’s almost ready to deliver something new to his fans! “Black Messiah” debuted at midnight on Monday night with very little promotion, a la Beyonce’s latest self-titled surprise. It features 12 tracks and it now available on Spotify for streaming (above) and iTunes for purchase.

“Black Messiah” been in the works for quite some time, as it was reported back in 2010 that D’Angelo was finally returning to the studio.

D’Angelo released the lead single, “Sugah Daddy” on Sunday and while it gives us a lot of the funk we’re used to with him, but there’s a new breath in this sound–he’s more settled into who he is: haunted, soulful and eclectic. We’ve been bumping it since last night.

D’Angelo originally introduced the song in 2012 (so this will really be more of a refresher), but it is the first time a studio version of “Sugah Daddy” is available. Check out the full album, “Black Messiah” and let us know what you think in the comments below.
