Chris Rock has been notably absent from the big and small screens lately, allowing Kevin Hart to wear the comedic lead crown, but on December 12 Rock’s back in theaters with “Top Five,” his first movie of the year — and from the looks of the first trailer it’s going to be hilarious!
“Top Five’s” synopsis sounds like a life situation someone like Rock might actually experience…not surprising, since the actor wrote and directed film. He plays a stand-up comedian named Andre Allen who, after making it big, is trying to shift from nonsensical movies (his bread and butter has become a fictional Hammy Bear trilogy) to being a serious actor, when his reality-TV star fiancé (Gabrielle Union) talks him into broadcasting their wedding on her TV show compromising his credibility again. When a New York Times reporter (Rosario Dawson) starts chasing him for a story and asking him some tough questions, he’s forced to examine his love and career life and make some tough decisions.
The laugh-out-loud clip gives us a first look at the other A-listers that will make cameos — and it’s a long list: Kevin Hart, Tracy Morgan, Whoopi Goldberg, Rosario Dawson and Cedric the Entertainer, Adam Sandler, Jerry Seinfeld, Sherri Shepherd and more will lend their star power to the comedy.
Even buzzier: Kanye West and Jay Z have co-producer credits on the film (“Ni***s in Paris” plays in the background of the trailer) and Questlove was the movie’s executive music producer.
With a fantastic lineup of comedians, actors and musicians involved in this project, “Top Five” has the recipe to be a hit! Watch the trailer, will you go see it in theaters?
