We can’t get enough of the casts of “The Lion King’s” impromptu performances!

A few months ago, we shared a video of the Australian cast of the Broadway musical serenading passengers with a pre-takeoff rendition of “Circle of Life.” In the spirit of making sure Australia knows who’s really King, the New York cast posted their own viral video performing “Circle of Life” on a subway train in the concrete jungle. Don’t judge me but I totally get chills watching these.

Whether this is a healthy inter-Disney cast competition or a brilliantly orchestrated social media campaign to keep those seats full, we can’t help but smile every time we see these videos. Any subway rider or online viewer who does not immediately have flashbacks of the first time they saw Mufasa raise Simba in glory at top of the mountain as the sun set in Disney’s 1994 animated classic should check themselves in to rehab for joylessness.

The Lion King premiered on Broadway in 1997.  It’s the fourth longest running show in Broadway history and the highest grossing Broadway production of all time, having grossed more than $1 billion. The show won six Tony Awards in 1998 including Best Musical.

Again, hoping some young social media strategist came up with these shenanigans so they get credit for this earned-media post I just spent the last 20 minutes writing. And if you haven’t seen “The Lion King” on Broadway, I mean… duh.
