Chirlane McCray is the wife of NYC’s mayor, Bill de Blasio has been labeled a bad mother and criticized for her refreshing honesty stemmed from her cover story in the latest issue of New York Magazine.

Media outlets like New York Daily News and The New York Post ran offensive headlines, attacking McCray’s motherhood after she said:

“I was 40-years-old. I had a life. Especially with Chiara–will we feel guilt forever more? Of course, yes. But the truth is, I could not spend every day with her. I didn’t want to do that. I looked for all kinds of reason not to do it. I love her. I have thousands of photos of her–every 1-month birthday, 2-month birthday. But I’ve been working since I was 14, and that part of me is me. It took a long time for me to get into ‘I’m taking care of kids’ and what that means.”

No big deal, right? Not every mom is brave enough to admit that they don’t want to spend every waking moment with their toddler. However, New York Daily News caught up with actress and mother, Angelina Jolie and asked her opinion on McCray’s statements and she said:

“I’m not a single mom with two jobs trying to get by every day. I have much more support than most people, most women in this world. And I have the financial means to have a home and health care and food.”

Even though Jolie is a busy Hollywood actress and juggles six children with her fiance, Brad Pitt, it’s being reported  that Jolie doesn’t have the same “issues” as McCray because she’s in a position to have her life bend to her career. This is unlike McCray, who admitted to having to take time away from politics to focus on motherhood (which is also a reality most mothers must face–taking time off for their children.)

Jolie admits that her wealth and star-studded career path afford her the ability to attend to her children without having it be considered time off. This is also a refreshing statement. To see that a woman who is afforded abundance in life, kindly exhibit to the reporter that she’s not on the same scale as McCray, therefore she can only speak to her experience is a beautiful thing.

Jolie told the Daily News, “I actually feel that women in my position, when we have all at our disposal to help us, shouldn’t complain. Consider all the people who really struggle and don’t have the financial means, don’t have the support, and many people are single raising children. That’s hard.”

Here’s the newsflash of the century–being a single parent is tough. And don’t even get me started on raising kids with scarce finances! Whether you’re a privileged mom like Angelina or you’re the type of mom who wishes she could have more time to herself like Chirlane, one thing is certain–I’m pretty sure there’s more things we could be worrying about–like Justin Beiber wanting to be Tupac.

What do you think about Angelina Jolie’s statements about motherhood?
