After a two-week search for Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 that seemed to disappear without a trace, Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak has announced that the plane went down in the southern Indian Ocean, according to reports.

Prime Minister Razak’s confirmation was based on information from Australian officials who spotted two objects in the Ocean that looked like they came from the plane that disappeared March 8.

“The data — drawn from satellite pings the ill-fated airliner continued to send throughout its final flight — made it clear that the plane’s last position was in the middle of the remote southern Indian Ocean, “far from any possible landing sites.”

The news is tragic and has been extremely devastating for the families of the 239 lost passengers. After the Prime Minster’s statement, Malaysia Airlines sent this text message to the family members of the MH370 passengers:

“Malaysia Airlines deeply regrets that we have to assume beyond any reasonable doubt that MH370 has been lost and that none of those on board survived. As you will hear in the next hour from Malaysia’s Prime Minister, we must now accept all evidence suggests the plane went down in the Southern Indian Ocean.”

Malaysia Airlines confirmed that they will arrange plans to fly families to Australia once all the wreckage is discovered.
