Lane Bryant celebrated its first-ever designer collaboration with designers Isabel and Ruben Toledo with a runway show in the busy Midtown section of New York. These designers should sound really familiar to you. Isabel designed Michelle Obama’s 2009 inauguration look…and #TeamBeautiful talked about it for months.

Now the talented Cuban-American designer has accepted the challenge of designing for today’s modern fashionista: the plus sized woman.

“For me, it’s really important that women are given the opportunity to be eccentric,” she told Fashionista.com. “The liberty, the freedom, the right to be eccentric, to be their size, and to have the freedom or the opportunity to enjoy fashion at any size […] I can’t imagine not having that, so I feel a duty to provide it.”

Without alienating the core customer of Lane Bryant, Isabel managed to create a chic, well-tailored sophisticated collection perfect for the trendy plus sized woman, or the woman searching for an upgraded look. So much of this collection is a win, but all the chatter is still about Lane Bryant’s use of real plus size models. A few local models paired with IMG’s new rooster of plus girls certainly warmed my soul.

Isabel has already designed four collections, to debut over the course of this year. Looks like congrats are in order for LB (tips hat)!
