They’re baaaack! The “Real Housewives of Atlanta” returned last night with season 6, in a premiere episode called “Bye Bye With the Wind” — a dig at Kenya aka “Ms. Gone With the Wind Fabulous” who spent the hour twirling on everyone’s last nerves.
What’s new with the rest of the girls? Well, Porsha struggled with her troubled marriage to Kordell Stewart who very publicly filed for divorce from her after last season; Phaedra and Apollo argued about household responsibilities as they welcome a second son into their family; Cynthia had a party for the launch of her new Bailey Agency space (and we know parties = drama with this crew); Kandi revealed that her mom isn’t feeling her fiancé Todd these days; and NeNe is still wrapped up in the aftermath of her over-the-top second wedding to Greg.
From the looks of the explosive season 6 sneak preview (click here if you missed it) this is going to be a WILD ride and last night wasted no time setting up all the conflicts to come. Keep clicking for the recap.
UP NEXT: NeNe’s (Second) Marriage, Porsha’s Divorce
First off I just want to give thanks to Bravo for shooting new opening credit intros for the girls, particularly because they took Kandi off of singing that sour “I may be small-all” auto tune note that pierced our ears last season. That was enough of that.
Anyway, the episode begins with Nene opening up Tiffany gifts in front of gigantic and kind of creepy oil paintings of herself and Greg, as they reminisce over their 400+ guest second wedding. “Everybody’s giving me such great crystal,” she muses, while Greg corrects her says “everyone’s giving us such great crystal.” There’s no I in team NeNe! But let’s be real, we know she’s wearing the pants in the relationship these days.
NeNe waves off Greg and the conversation quickly shifts to Porsha and Kordell’s drama. “Kordell knows how to break up with a bi**ch,” NeNe remarks as they talk about the cold way he’s handled the divorce. NeNe worried that Porsha would be “down and blue” since she was dealing with her divorce drama as NeNe was planning and having the wedding of the year, but NeNe remarks that Porsha seemed to be doing OK.
Well…..not so much.
Cut to Porsha who sat crying in her lawyer’s office while talking about filing a deposition for the divorce her husband wants. Porsha recalled how heartbroken she was to find out about Kordell’s divorce plans on Twitter of all places. She even mentioned that she asked Kordell point blank if he was thinking about divorce two weeks prior to him filing those papers, and the man had the nerve to get mad at her for asking such a thing, instead of just keeping it real.

Despite the shadiness, Porsha is still willing to try to make it work if Kordell would just adhere to a few requests she has. You gotta give it up for the girl for trying to salvage this mess, but she does mention that if he won’t make the effort the gloves are off and she says she’s willing to spill some things that happened in their marriage and that she witnessed.
Sounds like an alley-oop for a tell all book. This certainly isn’t the last we’ve heard of the Porsha and Kordell saga!
UP NEXT: The Bailey Agency Expands and So Does Phaedra’s Family
Meanwhile, Cynthia has outgrown her building for her modeling company, The Bailey Agency, so she’s moving the operation to a warehouse that Peter just bought, called Industry Studios.
There’s just one small problem: Peter told her he bought this building six months after he did it and he put up two-thirds of his and Cynthia’s household income to complete the purchase. *side-eye* This sounds like a recipe for their Season 3 drama all over again! “Everybody knows” (as Phaedra would say) that Peter can’t keep a business venture up-and-running to save his life.
Hopefully Cynthia’s saving up some of those Bravo checks for a rainy day! But for now she’s rocking with the new move and had a positive attitude about it. Well…until Kenya strolls into the business out of nowhere, during the middle of packing and after not talking to Cynthia in months.

Kenya seems to have gotten amnesia between this season and the last because she was mad that none of the girls have reached out to her, in light of her eviction drama that made headlines this summer. Cynthia tries to play it nice by pointing out that, between divorces, weddings, new babies and everything in between everyone been busy, but Kenya doesn’t get the hint so Cynthia finally has to keep it 100: “you burned a lot of bridges with those girls.” Of course Kenya doesn’t take responsibility for any of that. Instead she’s still mad that NeNe invited her “ex-boyfriend” to the wedding. “What ex boyfriend, what are you talking about,” Cynthia shades, before adding, “Walter!?” “Yes, Walter,” Kenya confirms.
Before I can roll my eyes, Cynthia beat me to the punch in a confessional shot where she sighs heavily and exclaims, “Oh, Lord!” Right!? Do we really have to spend another season dealing with Kenya’s imaginary relationship with Walter? Cynthia sums up my sentiments perfectly when she exclaims, “I can’t with Walter, I just can’t.”
UP NEXT: New Mama, Sugar Mama?
Since we last saw Phaedra on screen, she’s had another baby boy, Dylan, and she and Apollo have moved their growing family — including 3-year-old Ayden — on up to Buckhead, Atlanta (which Phaedra makes a point to note is considered the “90210 of the South).
We flashback to Phaedra having an emergency C-section two month’s prior, and just like when she delivered Ayden on camera, Phaedra is full of quotables as she looks at her newborn son for the first time. My favorite: “You just as pale as Michael Jackson right now, chyle.” Only Phaedra!

Doesn’t look like there will be a “Sip and See” for the newest member of the family, as they’re dealing with having their house remodeled. Phaedra is mad, in general, that Apollo is yawning and tired, while she’s taking care of two babies and “Working like a Hebrew slave” and the couple starts to argue about the household responsibilities.
Elsewhere in Atlanta, we get a dose of Kandi cooking breakfast for her fiancé Todd (pictured above). The couple, who has now been together for two years, start discussing work and Kandi talks about recording a song for Jennifer Hudson, while Todd is trying to get his next production gig with BET.
Todd points out that people “who don’t understand production” think that Kandi’s taking care of him, but is he really a kept man?! Not according to Kandi: “When people try to say ‘Oh Kandi’s a sugar mama or ‘she just wants to take care of Todd, it Irritates me.’ I mean, come on, I wrote ‘No Scrubs’, hello!” (Kandi, I’mma let you finish but if you remind us that you wrote that song, ONE MORE TIME I might just scream — in auto-tune. We get it girl.)

But the nosey folks of ATL aren’t the only ones talking about Kandi and Todd. Kandi reveals that Mama Joyce isn’t feeling her engagement, thinks it’s too soon and might not even come to the wedding! Kandi wants to hold off on the planning until things smooth over and I must admit, whatever this tension is between Todd and Mama Joyce doesn’t sound good! Mama usually knows best…
UP NEXT: Porsha Fuels Kordell’s Gay Rumors
Even though Porsha is running around with her ring on, “hopeful about the marriage,” and trying her best to work things out – bless her heart- it seems to be a royal wrap on her marriage to Kordell. Todd blames Kandi and the girls for instigating the divorce when they pushed her to go to the strip club in Vegas last season, but that ain’t it.
When Porsha gets back from the deposition she dishes with her mom and sister and ends up spilling some disturbing things that Kordell admitted in court, for one: “She wasn’t home by a certain time so I locked her out.” Clearly he’s had some control issues that we’ve witnessed over the last season, but is this dude serious!? Porsha’s mom said she knew something was wrong in the relationship when Porsha was in the hospital for a week following a miscarriage and Kordell only came to visit one time. “This man doesn’t appreciate a wife…he wants an object,” Mama says and then alludes that maybe he was trying to cover something else up. Then Porsha brings up the long-standing gay rumors about Kordell. She admits that family and friends asked about it in the past, but she never believed it until now that she realizes he wasn’t really interested in her sexually. In the end it made Porsha wonder who he was interested in, then she tells her family that her suspicions were “prompted by things she had seen and experienced.”
This should be interesting….

Meanwhile, NeNe, who has no filter and zero chill, calls the way Kordell handled the divorce situation a “Queen Move,” during a lunch she planned to start taking Porsha under her wing to offer support. Porsha doesn’t want to talk about her troubles at home and makes a brilliant move to deflect the conversation to NeNe’s wedding, and you know Big Sister NeNe was 100% fine with talking about it (again).
Porsha stirs the pot and asks why Kenya wasn’t in attendance at the nuptials. Nene said Kenya never responded to the invite or called to send her regrets for not showing up in the weeks following the ceremony. Kenya did find time to send a half-a**ed message about it on Twitter and you know Linnethia was not here for that!
UP NEXT: It’s Party Time (So You Know There WILL Be Drama)
Cynthia had an all white-themed party (because you know Black folks love this party attire) at her new space and everyone was invited. There were plenty of air kisses an smiles to go around, until Kenya showed up late (with Lawrence of “Fashion Queens”) just ready for beef. “I don’t know what girl is going to get out of line, I don’t know what attitude is going to come my way so I just need to take a breather and go, ‘oh OK I’m ready for you, bring it,” she said and then immediately strolls up on Cynthia and Porsha pageant waving all up in their faces. Girl….

The rest of the ladies took Kenya’s arrival as their cue to dip out and everyone looks for an excuse to scatter. Kandi says she had to leave to go tape “Kandi Koated Nights,” but made sure to stop to cackle with NeNe about their “Gone With the Wind” co-star, before she leaves. NeNe’s plan is to totally ignore Kenya and she picks the moment as the right time to ask Peter for a tour of the whole warehouse so that she can escape. Derek J comes to the rescue of Phaedra and whisks her off as the Southern Belle thanks God that she doesn’t have to deal with, in her words: “The Beauty Queen On Bath Salts” (ha! Everybody knows Phaedra always comes with the one liners).
Of course Cynthia decides to pick that very moment to take Kenya, Porsha and Lawrence on a tour of the new Bailey Agency office (because it wouldn’t be TV if she didn’t) and we already know they’re going to bump into Phaedra, NeNe, Apollo and Greg, who Peter is showing around.
When the two groups inevitably run into each other: NeNe still tries her best to ignore Kenya but Kenya insists on starting something. Kenya doesn’t say boo about missing NeNe’s wedding and instead launches into a tirade about how the past few months have been hard and tormenting for her as shes been dealing with an “illegal eviction.” “It’s like every time I’m going through something nobody even says hey, are you OK?” Kenya tells NeNe, who looks 100% unimpressed with the sob story. “I planned a wedding for 425 people, you didn’t reach out to me. I’m going through things just like you’re going through things,” NeNe snaps back.
Kenya tries to argue that it’s not the same but NeNe’s already done with the conversation. With a perfectly timed, “Girl bye” NeNe saunters off to the bathroom as Kenya runs after her yelling, “you’re not going nowhere!” Kenya gets in NeNe’s face demands to know why Walter was invited to the wedding and asks NeNe if Porsha’s husband Kordell was invited too. (Of course, Porsha’s ears perk up when she hears Kordell’s name as she decides to see her way into the A and B conversation. Smh!) “Don’t play games!” Kenya yells at NeNe, but then proceeds to act like a 5 year old and grab NeNe’s ear while demanding that she listen and then grab NeNe’s arm to try and make her stay to deal with the foolishness. Now the old NeNe might’ve cocked back and popped her, but New Normal/Glee NeNe tried her hardest to keep it cute, and walk away…even as Kenya was at her heels.
“Gone with the wind is good and gone….and so is Walter,” NeNe calls out. Bloop! “Go to hell NeNe!” Kenya shoots back. Welp! So much for trying to show a different side, Kenya.
Tune in next episode when Kenya goes to court to fight her eviction, Porsha moves in with her mom, Cynthia reveals a condition she’s been hiding for years, NeNe calls Kenya out over texting Apollo and Kandi’s mom, Joyce, has a deep suspicion of Todd creeping! Wheew! So much going on!
