“It’s A Thin Line Between Love & Hate”
In 1996 Lynn Whitfield took crazy to the next level when she beat her own face with an orange stuffed in pantyhose. Directed, co-written by and starring Martin Lawrence, “A Thin Line…” is a cautionary tale about playing with a woman’s heart for personal gain and lessons you’ll have to learn if you do.
“Audition”
This Japanese language film has accumulated a cult following since it’s 1999 release. Recognized on several lists as one of the most horrifying movies of all time, Audition tells the story of a middle-aged widower who thinks he has found a new love only to find out much too late that she is a sadistic killer. Not for the squimish!
“Misery”
Okay so this 1990 classic starring James Caan and Kathy Bates isn’t your typical crazy ex story, but it’s lead character, Annie believes that she loves famed novelist Paul Sheldon (portrayed by Caan.) Based on a novel by Stephen King, this movie will leave you feeling much like it’s title suggests…in Misery.
“Fear”
Good guy Mark Wahlberg does a helluva job playing David, a screwed up, stalkerish ex-boyfriend in this 1996 flick. He gives himself a tattoo of his love interest’s name, using a ball point pen and a knife, decapitates her dog and beats up her dad all in an effort to win her back. If that’s not romance, I don’t know what is! *side eye*
“Enough”
When Slim (Jennifer Lopez) marries Mitch (Billy Campell), he switches up and sheds the skin of the loving and perfect man she thought he was. He begins beating her, mentally torturing her and eventually almost kills her. But here’s where it gets fun! She learns to fight, makes some faux brass knuckles and set’s out to reclaim her life. C’mon, who doesn’t want to see Jenny from the block whoop some ass?!
