Favorite Films:
I cannot speak more highly about the delicate and powerful documentary “Homegoings,” (written and directed by Christine Turner) which won the CNN Films and Best Documentary award. The story of the funeral director Isaiah Owens and his life long commitment to caring for the dead was a stirring and emotionally charged look at life and death, and the burial rituals that are so deeply rooted in the African-American community. A+
“Through A Black Lens” contest winner film “Good Morning: The Dream of Sean Jones,” directed by Coodie and Chike. The nine minute silent-short film provided a thought provoking perspective about wearing “the everyday mask.” The directors choice to use hands painted in to faces to represent the mask created a striking visual and the inspired theme resonated with anyone who desires to pursue their passions and make their dreams a reality. A- (only because I wanted more).
