On this episode of “R&B Divas,” we got a chance to see the softer side of the ‘divas’ instead of the malicious, drama side. The girls were all invited to perform at an AIDS Charity event by Sheryl Lee Ralph and while Angie and LaTocha were missing, the other girls agreed to perform. Each of them had an emotional experience with the disease so of course performing at the event brought a few of them to tears. Meanwhile, Angie and LaTocha worked on their own careers and tried to get back on track with the tour. Find out what happened below.
Preparing For The AIDS Event
Since the ladies were all invited to the AIDS event, they were feeling honored and emotional at the same time. Monifah lost her brother to cancer and she wanted to honor his memory in a big way. Nicci lost her cousin to AIDS in the 80s and she regretted how she treated him before he died. Keke also revealed later in the episode that one of her family members was currently living with AIDS and thought that when she was performing at the event she would break down into tears. Because the ladies had such an emotional connection to loved ones they had lost to the disease, they were happy to have the chance to honor their memory.

LaTocha Meets With Jermaine Dupri
LaTocha was on a mission to get her career back on track and she met with her mentor, Jermaine Dupri, who told her to continue to make as much music as possible. LaTocha was upset that the world still was unclear on what happened with the group, Xscape, and felt that even though Kandi left the group, everyone felt as if the group left Kandi. Jermaine also told LaTocha to continue to focus on the fan base that she already had instead of trying to win over new fans. LaTocha was frustrated by his advice, but trusted his judgement, after all, look at how many successful artists Jermaine Dupri had produced in the past on his So So Def label!

Later, LaTocha and Angie met for tea and to discuss the tour. They blamed Nicci for messing up everything with the tour but were determined to get it back on track. Sounds interesting coming from two of the newest cast members, don’t ya think?
AIDS Benefit Concert
Finally, it was time for the AIDS event. Keke was still worried that she would break down during the concert, but prepared to take the stage anyway despite her fears. She gave a speech to the crowd about her family member living with the disease and then opened up with a song dedicated to him. As she was singing, she burst into tears but regained her composure to close out the song. Nicci then took the stage to close the event and sang, “That’s What Friends Are For.” She told the crowd about her cousin that had the disease and died from it. She also began to cry during her set but the girls were there to have her back and they took the stage to help her get through the rest of the song. At that moment, it was clear that although the girls could be divas at all times, they also shared a strong bond that nobody understood but them!
