Here at HelloBeautiful we just love celebrating Black love. Every Wednesday we profile newly engaged couples as they describe the moment he decided to “Put A Ring On It”.
I met Phillip on a BlackPlanet, which my girlfriends insisted I should be a member of. I loved the fact that Phillip was very consistent in keeping touch with me by writing me notes everyday. I felt he was truly interested in me. The first note I received from him on BlackPlanet was July 29, 2001. Phillip was just as sweet online as he was in person–definitely better in person.
On our first date, I was skeptical to meet him. We all know meeting someone from the Internet can be sketchy, you just never know what would happen. But I let my girlfriends know where I was and who I was with just in case. Phillip and I met on 42nd street in Manhattan. Mainly because I knew people would be everywhere. We went to the movies to see “Rush Hour 2,” and had a great time. After our first date, we ended up going out every weekend after that. Finally, we made our relationship official on August 19, 2001.
Our love continued 11 years after that. Phillip proposed to me on August 19, 2011. He proposed to me on 42nd street where we first met. I was so excited and yearning for that day for a long time. We are truly in love and I can’t wait to marry Phillip on August 17, 2013.
Thank you Black Planet for helping me meet my soulmate.
Jocelyn and I originally met online via BlackPlanet.com. I first wrote her on BlackPlanet on Sunday July 29th, 2001. I introduced myself and ask her to write me back if she would like to talk and get to know each other. She took a couple of days to write me back but when she did, we wrote each other almost everyday. After a few notes on BlackPlanet, we then exchanged phone numbers. I was so nervous to call her for the first time, but when we spoke it was natural. We spoke for hours each day and since then there was not one day that went by that we haven’t spoken.
We decided to meet up in the Times Square New York because she was skeptic on meeting me with no one really around. We went to the movies on our first date and we had a great time. We made our relationship official on August 19,2001 and on August 19, 2011. I met Jocelyn in Times Square where we first met in person and I proposed to her in the middle of Time Square on 42nd street and 7th ave.
Jocelyn and I are now getting married August 17,2013.
