Gathering inspiration from none other than a traveling circus, Mara Hoffman brought out vibrant color, unique prints, and cozy knits for her Fall 2013 collection. Although Hoffman has a history of success when designing for Resort and Spring, for this collection she showed that her design aesthetic can translate effectively for Fall.
As usual, she didn’t shy away from bold color. It was a colorful feast with neon orange, hot pink and cobalt blue. But since not everyone is crazy for brights, Mara toned it down a notch with pops of grey and black. There was no shortage of prints and Hoffman gave us a vast array to play with; from her elephant and peacock Caravan version to my personal favorite, the kaleidoscope Phoenix.
Mara’s girl likes to have a good time. She travels often, goes out for drinks, and dances till dawn. She can rock a Phoenix print peplum mini dress just as well as a pair of cognac leather pants and sweater. “I wanted to embrace what we do best with this collection and give our girls what they love most- color, prints and wearable, yet unique silhouettes”, Hoffman said of her Fall offering. Standouts for this collection include: a seeing eye Intarsia wrap over a Trickster print mini dress, (worn by model and friend Ataui Deng), a poppy Suzani chiffon gown with black leather detail, and my favorite: a geometric wool houndstooth coat paired with embroidered black plants. Angela Simmons would be a strong candidate for these flirty bodycon frocks and cool separates.
