Finding my own personal style wasn’t easy, especially during my 9-5 corporate days. I definitely found my style genes somewhere in between blogging and stalking current and old trends. The first thing I had to learn is that personal style is just that – personal. Before anyone can love it, you have to. So take risks but find your own comfort zone. I like to dabble in color a bit, but I love blacks and grays and it works well for my personal style. But there are a few tips to remember if you want to snag that new promotion or move from intern to executive.

1. Always put your best face forward. The start to great style is an awesome face. Think clean, neat, fresh, and vibrant. Find a cute makeup bag and throw in your foundation, lipstick and blush for light touchups throughout the day.
2. Don’t think too hard. They lied. Think hard! Try your clothes on for the week. Being stylish means being prepared and arriving in a well put together look. We all know when we have a meeting (most of the time) so dress a little more professional on that day. Don’t overdo your causal day either. Always go for jeans and a blazer. You never know when the head honcho wants to treat you for lunch. Look the part even on Fridays.

3. Wear the best part of you everyday. Create a signature look. I love wearing head pieces. It brings even more attention to my gray hair which is a great ice breaker for meeting new professionals. Yours might be a favorite necklace your grandmother gave to you, or a signature pair of black pumps. Whatever it is, let it speak for your personality.
4. Don’t be the easy office girl. This is probably the most important tip. Even if the above statement isn’t true, when you wear clothes that are too sexy this will be the assumption. Sometimes ladies have a habit of trying the wrong trends at work. Leaving you completely looked over for the next opportunity. Save the low neck lines and short skirts for the weekend parties.
Overall always remember the mirror doesn’t lie. If you have to ask, “Should I wear this”, the answer is probably NO!
