Hurricane Sandy has had me locked up in the house all week. Even though I am beyond blessed to have never lost power or internet I can’t shake this boredom. I don’t know about the rest of the New Yorkers, but I’m packing a few outfits and my makeup bag and heading down south to visit my girls. My issue began when I looked in my makeup bag and saw three foundations, five different blushes, and gosh knows how many lipsticks and glosses. I immediately got into condense makeup bag mood.

Compartmentalize: Separate your makeup into different categories (eyeshadow, lip color, blush, etc.). Most of us don’t own a professional makeup case. So try grouping stuff in a separate clear Ziploc bag. And the great thing is, if something breaks or leaks while you are traveling, the mess is contained and easy to clean up.

Essentials Only Please: Have a separate bag for your travel needs and treat it just like your suitcase. If you know you’re not gonna wear that tangerine lipstick then there’s no place for it in your bag. When you plan your looks for the weekend, take an extra five minutes and think about what face you’re gonna give.

Double-Duty: There’s nothing like an all in one product. Brands are now realizing that we are on-the-go women. So find a product that will serve as your blush, lipstick, and eyeshadow. Laura Mercier Caviar Stick Eye Colour, $24, and Tarte LipSurgence Lip Tint, $24 are two of my faves that allow more room in my bag.
