“I’m doing a lot of happy sh*t these days,” boasts funnyman Kevin Hart during his performance at this year’s Essence Music Festival. The comedic genius was given a chance to perform on the same stage as icons like Aretha Franklin, Mary J. Blige and Chaka Khan at the 18th annual Essence Music Fest.

During Hart’s performance, the audience was urged to put away cell phones and all other recording devices, or risk being kicked out. However, Hart–ever the open book–mentioned during the show that he’s not sad or bitter because of his recent divorce from wife, Torrei. “She’s happy, she’s moved on. I’m happy, I’ve moved on. I’m happier than she is though,” Hart joked.
As this marked Hart’s first time headlining a show like this, his 33rd birthday was celebrating more than just another year of life. Kevin seemed to be celebrating his own happiness and success alongside Hollywood heavyweights like Denzel Washington, LisaRaye and Kevin Liles to name drop a few.
